I'm back...and more chuckles

Well I'm back-my website that is.  Unfortunately all emails during the "down time" have not been recovered.  If you emailed me or sent me a message through my website and have not heard back from me, please resend it.  I didn't get it the 1st time.  Sorry folks!

On a funny side note I thought I'd share another silly anecdote from the mouth of my 6 year old.  We all sat down for lunch today and Logan mumbled something to Rob.  Of course Rob couldn't understand what he said so he replied "what?"  Logan was quick to reply with "can't tell you Dad, it's classified."  Seriously where does this kid get this stuff?!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to y'all!

I'm alive and Christmas chuckles...

Well hello there!  It's been so long since I blogged anything that I'm sure you've all forgotten me by now.  I promise I'm hanging in there just super busy.  That is one of the perks of owning your own small business...no one to help you when things get crazy.  :) Things are finally slowing down a bit and I have plans to enjoy the season and my family ASAP!!  I hope that y'all do the same and have a fabulous holiday season!!

On a side note I thought I'd share a funny little story from the other night.  While strolling around Zoo Lights Tuesday night we decided to stop in and see "The Real Santa". On the way over we saw the 2 reindeer he brought with him from the North Pole. Logan (my 6 year old) got SUPER excited, then turned to me and said "look mom it's Dickson." Rob and I chuckled and I said don't you mean Blitzen? He replied that no in fact it's Dickson, he apparently "knows his reindeer." Then proceeded to sing "Rudolph the red nosed reindeer" just to prove it to me. :) Sorry for the crummy cell phone photo. I left my camera at home in an attempt to me more present during our little outing.

"You know Dasher and Dancer, Prancer and Vixen, Comet and Cupid and Donner and Dickson..."

I hope that you are all able to take some time during this busy season to stop and truly enjoy the magic!  My love to you all and your loved ones.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Just popping in...

to let you all know that I only have 1 remaining spot left open for 2010.  I have an afternoon session available on Saturday December 4th.  The photos won't be available until after the new year but I can still work in the session.  After that my next opening isn't until Saturday January 8th 2011.  Can you believe 2011 is almost upon us?  I remember the whole Y2K fiasco like it was yesterday and now fast forward and it's almost 2011.  WOW!!

Since a blog post is meaningless without a photo here is one from a recent fall family session.  Most of the photos from this session were all taken in the clients own home/yard.  In case I haven't mentioned it here before (which I'm sure I have but I like to repeat myself) I LOVE LOVE LOVE to come shoot in your own home enviroment.  The kids are always so comfortable and relaxed when they are at home with their own things.  I have yet to shoot a session in a clients home where I didn't absolutely love every image from the session.  If this is something you are interested in call, email or contact me on Facebook and we can discuss the details.

now back to the grindstone...

"In between" photo of the week...

I know it's been a while but boy do I have a FABULOUS photo to make up for taking so long!! Let me give you the story and the reason it is an "in between" photo. I'm sure you all know that my husband and I work A LOT. With that being said I reserve Sundays for my family. I did however make an exception for a fabulous couple a few weeks ago. We got the plans set and everything was ready for a fabulous engagement/family photo session. We headed to Wheeler Farm only to be hit by what I swear must have been tornado strength winds. We decided to make the best of it and work it for all it was worth. Within 15 minutes of starting I rounded the corner near the "play house" only to look up and see flames shooting sky high only 25 feet in front of me. I'm not kidding when I tell you I was up close and personal with a wild fire at Wheeler Farm of all places. We later learned that officials blamed "spontaneous combustion" from a compost pile for starting the blaze.

We turned away from the fire hoping to still get some great shots before we were evacuated. Let's just say that didn't last long. Officials were everywhere and people were getting a little crazy. After being told we had to leave we started walking towards our cars. I looked up to see one of THE coolest cars ever. I am not a car aficionado by any means so I have no idea the make or model but I would guess it was from the 1940's. Well what does a spunky red-head do when she sees something so cool? Get my camera of course! I see the owners of the car heading back to get inside. I literally ran up and begged for 1 minute and the use of their awesome automobile. They were a bit confused but obliged nonetheless. I got 3 frames off when a Ford Explorer comes flying down the dirt road honking and swerving right towards me. The driver literally brushed the side of my leg with his car. We get up and out of the way only to see a very small sticker saying Fire Marshall. Yes that's right folks, not only was I shooting photos during a wild fire I almost got ran over by the Fire Marshall. Needless to say the story behind the photo is what makes it an "in between". Without further ado let me introduce Brenda and Jason...and a seriously cool car!

The day was crazy to say the least but I must admit that this photo is priceless! I will probably never get an opportunity like this again. I am so glad I was in the wrong place at the right time. Thanks Brenda and Jason for indulging my wild idea. I think it was worth nearly getting hit by the crazy Fire Marshall.

Until next time...

"In between" photo of the week...

I have a ton of stuff on my plate right now so this is going to be short and sweet tonight.  Everyone let's say hello to Collin.

This little guy is a ball of energy and definitely the wild card in his family!  Maybe that is why we get along so well :)  I have been working with this family since Collin was super little.  Can I just say again how lucky I am to hang out with such fun people who keep coming back for more.  So very blessed!!

Confessions of a complusive organizer...with a creative streak

***Warning I am about to reveal some serious OCD tendancies.  If you don't want to be overwhelmed with my crazy then I suggest you move on to the next blog :)***

I can't say that I remember when "it" started.  I've just always been this way.  Yes folks, that's right.  My name is Angela and I am a compulsive organizer.  The thing is I have this odd creative, right brained side as well.  I can't just organize EVERYTHING in my life I have to make it pretty too.  I guess if I'm going to be honest I might as well admit that I have no plans to stop anytime soon.  My family has adapted without too much trouble so why change something that isn't broken right?! :)

Well fast forward to my life right now.  I have a 4th grader, a 1st grader, a Certified Flight Instructor hubby, and too many "jobs" of my own to even bother listing here.  When school started a few weeks ago I knew I would need some sort of a "system" to keep our lives on track.  Enter the "Command Center".  Clearly, I have a problem with over puncuation as well.

It took some time for me to gather all the necessary supplies and get my hubby to hang everything but I am happy to report that we are up and running.  I am feeling so much better now.  Like I can tackle the world, and maybe add some glitter to spiff things up.

This is my new life and I love it.  Just for kicks I will explain it all for any moms out there who need some extra OCD today.  I mentioned the 1st and 4th grader so I figured each child would need their own board.  Savanna my 4th grader gets pink because well she's a girl and girls need pink.  Logan my 1st grader loves all things green (except veggies that is) so naturally his board needed to be green.  They each have their own cork board as well.  Basically Savanna gets the top row and Logan gets the bottom row.  They have their own matching clips, magents and thumbtacks as well.  Remember that right brained creative streak I mentioned?  Well here's where it comes into play.

My kids go to a Charter School nearby and have several teachers throughout the day.  I typed up a card for each child with all of their teachers listed by subject with their email address, websites and phones #s.  I also listed what days they have library or PE.  And yes I color coordinated them, DUH!

The cork boards are used for things like spelling lists, notes and extra curricular schedules.

I also included a magnet pen/marker holder.

Each person has their own color marker and pen.  They are used on the all important calender.

I only have 2 weeks schedules listed as I just finished everything up yesterday.  Like I said each person has their own color marker so their daily schedule is listed in their specific color.  This keeps everyone on the same page and we can all go to 1 central location to check any one of our daily schedules.

As you can see I have horrible handwriting.  It's genetic.  My Grandpa had bad handwriting, my Dad has bad handwriting, I have bad handwriting and apparently so do my children.  I read somewhere one time that bad handwriting is a sign of intelligence, so that is what we are going with here.  We're all just super smart!

Now that I've let you all peak into my crazy, over organized life I'd better run.  I have "real" work to do today.  Thanks for stopping by!

Sweet Baby Sadie

Hello internet.  I know it's been a while but I thought I would let y'all know that yes in fact I am still alive.  Barely...No really I had the craziest week ever last week.  Unfortunately this week is looking worse :(  I'm sure I'll figure it out, I always do right?!

Anyway on to the photos shall we.  Everyone say hello to Sweet Baby Sadie...

Yes she really is that cute!!  I could gush on and on about those sweet little lips but how about another photo instead?

Maybe some little piggies this time.  You know how I LOVE me some baby piggies!

Since things always look better in groups of 3 here is photo number 3.  Don't let this sleepy little angel fool you.  She was not so happy to have her photos taken or to go to sleep for that matter.  I pulled out my best baby whispering techniques and it finally worked.  Thank you so much Nick and Krystal!  I loved every second of working with Sweet Baby Sadie.  Yes even the crying parts.

Until Next Time...

"in between" photos of the week

I know I'm a slacker and didn't post an "in between" photo last week and I'm sorry.  What can I say back to school got the best of me.  So this week I'm going to make up for it by posting 2 photos.  How's that?  Does everyone feel better now?  Well I do anyway...

The sweet kiddos are the Hewetts.  Doesn't it look like they are having fun?  Well let me give you a little background info.  This day was a particularly hot July day and even at 7pm it was miserable.  When I say hot I mean HOT HOT HOT!!  Well what's a photographer to do when the thermostat outside is measuring the same temperatue as the sun?  Bubbles of course!  As you can see the idea went over pretty well.

No proper little girl likes to get bubbles on their face!  Lucky me look what I got.

And because I don't want Spencer to feel left out here's 1 more.  Technically yes I lied when said I would post 2 photos.  And yes I know I shouldn't start a sentence with and.  Silly me!

That's all folks!

We made it...

We offically survived the 1st week of school.  The kids are totally loving it!  Me?  Well I'm still not sure.  It's so hard to see my babies grow up, even when it's something as important as school.  I'm sure that by next week when I can actually get something done at home I will feel better!

Man when did they get so big?  On a funny side note; Logan managed his 1st day of school lunch remarkably well.  They take home lunch everyday except pizza day so I wasn't sure how it would go.  Apparently he asked for a small piece of pizza and "A LOT OF WATERMELON!"  I guess it's just proof he is mine right?!

Signing off...

"In Between" photo of the week...

I know I missed last weeks installment and I'm sorry.  I'm sure you were all sitting on pins and needles waiting for the next "in between" photo so here goes...

Internet meet The Biglers.  I met this sweet little family about 3 1/2 years ago when the oldest daughter Chelsea was graduating from high school.  Fast forward and now she just left to serve a mission in Peru.  This was a combined family/missionary session and as you can see we certainly had fun!!

Thanks so much Bigler Fam-I just love you guys!!

In other news my baby starts 1st grade next week so I can't promise anything when it comes to blogging etc.  I'm sure I will be spending some time wiping my tears and adjusting to a quiet house.  Once I get myself together and figure out a new routine things will be back to normal around here.  Until then hang on, I know it's a bumpy ride but those are the best kind right?!

Sweet little gifts from my children...

We've been growing strawberries in our little flower garden for the last 2 years only to have the birds eat them all up before we get a chance.  Well this year my kiddos had a different plan...they would pick them before the birds got to them.  Needless to say they are a little on the small side but I couldn't love them more!

As I sat down to type this post my mind started to wander, which happens a lot :).  I started thinking about all of life's little gifts.  The small things that go un-noticed.  The little strawberries I might throw out if I wasn't paying attention.  It goes without saying that we are all grateful for our families, however dysfunctional they may be.  But do we really pay attention to all the little parts of our lives that are made better just by living with the people we love the most?

The other day my hubby made the bed for me while I was gone working out.  No biggie right?  Well I'm usually the last one up so I always make the bed.  In a rush to get out the door early I saved the task for later only to come home and see that he had done it for me.  It was a fabulous way to start the day.

Along with the fun of the summer sun comes all the fighting and arguing when 2 kids are home together everyday.  I have certainly spent my fair share of time refereeing all the disagreements.  Well today I got out of the shower earlier to find them playing together and actually sharing their toys.  It was a summertime miracle!  Another one of those little moments I might've missed.

My life is full of crazy chaos 99% of the time.  It's that other 1% that stops me in my tracks.  I am truly blessed to have a hubby who works really hard and loves me unconditionally.  I have 2 amazing "miracle" babies who are growing up to be 2 kind and compassionate big kids.  I have an extended family that I can laugh and cry with anytime.  I have a circle of friends that I consider family and upon whom I can count on anytime.  I have a warm home to live in and yummy food to eat.  I have a job that I LOVE that allows me to document the connections of other people who love each other.  I am truly blessed and today I'm feeling incredibly grateful!

Just needed to put this out there.

Utah Dog Park Grand Opening Open House

Hello there!  Remember the cute doggie photo I shared the other day?  Well he is a friend I met at the Utah Dog Park in Woods Cross UT.  They are having a Grand Opening Open House this Saturday July 31st from 11am-3pm.  I am donating a custom designed 10"x20" custom framed storyboard collage ($175 retail value).  Come on over for food, fun and prizes.

I was able to take a tour of the facility and totally fell in love.  It is a top notch place for your furry friends!  Rocky will definitely have to go play there next time we need to have him boarded.  Swing on by Saturday and don't forget to bring your furry friends!  See you there.

This is a copy of the storyboard collage I designed for the display table.  Head over to the Utah Dog Park to check it out with all the other awesome prizes.

"In betweens" photo of the week

Well there's one thing to be said about me-I'm consistent!  This week anyway :)  The "in betweens" photo of the week is a shot of sweet little Emily.  She just LOVED posing and working it for my camera.  This shot came after one of her "poses".

I guess it just goes to show that its worth it to pay attention!  Just look at the sparkle in her eyes.  The technical term for that is "catchlights" and it's all about positioning the subject in the right light and knowing my camera like the back of my hand.  Oh and mother nature provided the beautiful wind blown hair.  No fan needed.

The "in betweens"...

For the last couple of months I've been toying with the idea of a photo of the week type post.  I'm too A.D.D. to commit to a daily post but I can probably handle a weekly post.  Enter disclaimer here...I won't promise anything as far as what day of the week I will post but I will do my best to be consistent.

On to the topic of the photo of the week posts...the in betweens.  I know, I know that's not grammatically correct but hear me out.  Most of you know me and know my work.  It has a very organic, un-posed feel to it.  While I see the need and do try to accomodate the larger traditional family portraits my heart lies in those stolen moments of family connectedness.  The "in betweens".  Let me give you a couple of examples...

This is the perfect example of a hilarious "in between" moment.  Poor baby Morgan was not having a good day, as you can tell.  Big sister Addison was just trying to help and the middle child, was well the middle child.

I often capture "in between" moments that are more worthy of your precious wall space.

This particular shot is one of my all time favorites.  I gave the kids some simple directions to walk across the bridge, stop and turn to look at me.  This is the yummy result.

Another favorite.  Little brother Elliot wasn't quite sure about me yet, but big sister Annie just wanted some love.

How about one more?

I asked these cute kiddos to show me their best yoga moves.  I got yoga moves but I also got silly natural expressions I wouldn't have gotten otherwise.

So what this all boils down to is paying attention.  I can be loud and funny when I need to but I am always watching for those special moments.  Those "in betweens".

Stayed tuned for next weeks installment.

I'm Melting...

At least that's what it feels like these days.  I don't remember signing up for 97 degree temperatures but I might have blocked it out with all that snow we had just a few short weeks ago.  I guess I'd better just get used to the heat.  After all it's July 2nd and technically we live in a desert.

Well let's get to the goodies...

Recently I had the pleasure of spending time with 2 goregous little girlies that I just love.  I've photographed both of these babes since they were just tiny and I don't think it's a stretch to say they get cuter everytime I see them.

All the mothers out there collectively sighed didn't you?!  That's ok so did I!

I'm not going to lie and say sibiling photos at this age are easy.  They are NOT but I still try.  Every now and then I am blessed with something like this.  Beautiful, if I must say so myself!

This is my absolute favorite image of the day.  The timing of the shot was perfect.  The lighting was yummy.  The little yellow sundress was delish and don't even get me started with those lips.  Seriously!!  Lucky me!!

This little sweetie almost makes me want another baby.  I said ALMOST!!

I could've played with these 2 sweethearts all day!  Thanks so much Doug and Angie I just adore your little family!

Well friends it's back to work for me.  Picture me laying on a beach somewhere with a huge sunhat and sunglasses.  Just soaking up the rays.  Now back to the 97 degree desert reality!

Happy Sunny Saturday!

Well it finally feels like summer around these parts.  I thought we would never make it.  I even tried to get a little sun yesterday only to be reminded that if it's hot enough outside that it feels like your skin is frying...IT IS!!!  You would think after all these years (yes I'm old) I would know better.  Red hair and sun don't mix well.  Period, end of story!

Now on to more pressing matters...PHOTOS!!

Ya'll remember adorable baby Brinley from last week, well here are a few more from her recent photo session.  All together now...AAAHHH!

Here is the sweet little family of 3.  Isn't that blessing dress amazing.  Brinley's mom had it custom made for the occasion.

Who can resist a sleeping baby?  Well not me that's for sure!  The gorgeous white blanket she is resting on was made by her Great-Grandmother before she passed away.  I LOVE incorporating special things like this blanket in my photo sessions.  It makes the photos that much more meaningful.

Anyone who knows me knows I have a weakness for baby feet.  I just can't get enough of those sweet little piggies!

Well that's all for now folks.  Tune in next week for an exciting preview of some recent summer sessions at The Peace Gardens.
Keep the sun and the suncreen coming baby!

Yea Yea I know...

Yes I know I'm a delinquent blogger!  I have a good excuse but it's not really that interesting.  It involves a heavy workload (yea!) and 2 kiddos on summer break.  I promise to hang around more frequently when I get some sort of a schedule up and running.  For now I thought I'd pop in with and just say hi!

Oh and add a super sweet photo of baby Brinley

***sniff, sniff, sniff***

My baby graduated from Kindergarten today.  I was the proud Mama blubbering on the back row.  At least I had my huge camera to hide my face right!

This little guy is SUCH an amazing kid.  He overcame the odds right from the start and continues to amaze us each and everyday.  My heart swells with pride when I see him accomplishing so much.  He is so kind and compassionate and I thank God for him everyday!  I think Winnie the Pooh said it best...

"Sometimes, said Pooh, the smallest things take up the most room in your heart."

Of course my kid is the one in the one in the back with the long "skater dude" haircut.

More tears from Mama!!

Our beloved Mrs. Lingmann.  Logan woke up sobbing yesterday, he was so sad to leave his favorite teacher.  He was going to miss her so much he couldn't help crying.

Mrs. "V" the kindergarten aide, another amazing part of Logan's 1st year of school.

Because I'm a sentimental sap I thought I would add a photo from the day Logan came home from the hospital.  He was 5 days old here and yes he was smiling at his Mama!

Well, now it's official.  My baby is growing up and no one checked with me to see if I was ok with it.  You'd better watch out, there's one amazing kid ready to take to on the world!

I need another tissue,

What a ride!!!

This last Sunday May 16th Wright's Motorcycle http://www.wrightsmotorcycleparts.com/ sponsered the annual Shriners Kids Benefit Ride.  Obviously it's a no-brainer that we would be involved.  Unfortunately we don't have a bike of our own to actually "ride" in the event but we participated in the picnic/raffle/party afterward.  The bikers left Wright's about 10am but hit a little bump in the road on their way.  3 bikers were injured in a crash that closed down Parley's Canyon and sent them to the hospital.  This delayed the arrival of the larger part of the group.  Eventually everyone ended up at West Bountiful Park around 1pm.  To say that it was a moving experience would be a huge understatement.

We went to the picnic last year while Savanna still had her braces on and just stood there crying at all the love and support these amazing people were giving kids and our child in particular.  This time there was a little less crying but still plently of love and support.  We had 7 different bikes and 16 people not including the 4 of us that participated specifically for Savanna and our family.  There are not words in the english language to describe the gratitude and love that we have for everyone that came and for Shriners Hospital.  They have truly changed our lives forever!

Now it's on to some fun photos of the day...

Just some of the bikes that came to the park.

These bears were for sale for $5 with ALL the proceeds benefitting Shriners.  That's right 100% of the proceeds from the ride, the bingo game and the raffle all went to benefit Shriners.  Everyone that was helping participated as a volunteer and all the food and prizes were donated.
